Laura Geftos

I started my hospitality career at 18, working for the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Working as a front desk agent, then moved my way up to management. Once I moved to Detroit, I was able to transfer to the MGM Grand in Detroit. After a few years, I moved to the Catering Department as an Administrative Assistant, where I fell in love with hospitality and Food & Beverage. I was promoted after about a year as an Event Manager handling all the talent that stayed at MGM. Then shortly after was again promoted to Catering Service Manager, handling and selling events of all sizes. In 2020 like many hospitality workers, I was unfortunately placed on furlough as all events were canceled for the year. I was hired at Aramark for the Ford account, working as an Administrative Assistant, and once again promoted to Catering Director shortly after. Although I was pleased with Aramark, my love has always been with philanthropic work. My goal has always been to work for an organization whose mission is to serve and develop the community. Coming from immigrant parents, I have always felt that the responsibility of developing our Hispanic community lies with first-generation Hispanic Americans. If we have a door that opens for us, we should keep it open and help others through it.

I am proud to be with MHCC and look forward to developing programs and events for our members and community.
