We are saddened to inform the Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (MHCC) community that Nestor Fernandez, Sr., past owner of Digitron, Inc. headquartered in Dayton Ohio passed away on Wednesday, November 15th in Miami, Florida at the age of 75.
Nestor Sr. was one of the founding members of the Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and a founding father of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. As Chairman and CEO of Digitron Packaging Inc. in Livonia, Nestor guided Digitron Packaging’s status as a benchmark supplier to Ford Motor Co.
Nestor Fernandez moved from Cuba to the United States in 1961. Fernandez was a 19-year-old college student at the University of Havana when he left. He settled in Dayton, Ohio, with his wife, Nancy, and resumed his studies at the University of Dayton. After completing his degree and working in several machining and tooling jobs, he started Digitron Tool Co. He acquired several other companies during the 1980s and 1990s. Eventually, Fernandez would move the company’s operations from Dayton to Detroit. In 1986, he formed Digitron Packaging Inc, making it his flagship company. By 2003, the company revenue was at $45 million.
